Donor Family Story: John Grant

On July 10th of 2018, our family’s world tilted on its axis and dumped us into the dark chasm of unanticipated grief. My husband, John, was a perfectly healthy 59-year-old man—we were looking forward to empty nest take 2, retirement, mini-adventures over the weekends. He loved us so well. One of the things I always admired about John was his ability to find the good in almost every situation. This was most apparent when he coached our sons. They might have gotten trampled into the dirt, but he would tell each child what they did right during the game. I hope that whoever received John’s actual eyes also received the connection that flowed from his heart, and that they too are able to see the beauty and goodness that exists everywhere in this world.

I truly believe that organ donation is one of the ways God paints beauty from ashes.
