Miracles In Sight Expands Service Reach with New Partnership

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.Miracles In Sight (MIS), a nonprofit eye bank that recovers, processes and distributes ocular tissue, announced today that it has expanded its reach with a new partnership. Lone Star Lions Eye Bank based in Manor, Texas, has joined the MIS family. The agreement was effective Aug. 3, 2020.

Under the partnership, Lone Star Lions Eye Bank will be known as Miracles In Sight, Lone Star Division, and have access to specialized capabilities, training opportunities and expanded service lines. 

“After many years of collaboration between our organizations, alignment in values, and strengthening of trust over the years our partnership came about naturally,” said Daniel Mercado, Executive Director of Lone Star Lions Eye Bank. “We are proud to be part of the Miracles In Sight Family. This agreement will allow us to maintain a local presence while expanding our capabilities to serve our community and provide highly specialized services to enhance visual outcomes for patients.”

Lone Star Lions Eye Bank was established in the early 1970s. The nonprofit is dedicated to the preservation of sight, raising donor awareness, recovering and processing ocular tissue, supporting research and providing educational programs in Central Texas.

“We are excited to partner with Lone Star Lions Eye Bank,” said Dean Vavra, President and CEO of Miracles In Sight. “Our joining together will give the physician community in Texas access to additional eye-banking services and resources to improve patient outcomes. We welcome Lone Star Lions Eye Bank to the MIS family.”

As one of the largest eye banks in the world, Miracles In Sight performs more than 3,600 transplants each year. A significant part of the organization’s mission centers on stewardship. Miracles In Sight focuses heavily on training and educating the medical community as well as supporting partners and organizations around the world.
